After just two training sessions together, our brand-new U7s team stepped out for their very first two matches today. With so little time as a group, the focus was all about getting to know each other, building confidence, working as a team and enjoying the football. The boys were absolutely brilliant and gave everyone watching plenty to smile about!
Game 1 vs Bustleholme Ducks
A really fast-paced game full of passing, tackling and end-to-end action. Either side could have been in front at half-time. Bustleholme took the lead with a very well-taken free-kick and then a goal that both teams thought might not have fully crossed the line, but the referee gave it.
We made a goalkeeper switch for the second half and Tommy was excellent between the sticks, pulling off some superb saves. Outfield, Oscar was fantastic in defence with strong tackles and positive runs forward, Freddie was getting stuck in everywhere and created some lovely moments, while Koby made one brilliant tackle and released Rio, who used his fantastic speed and power to race clear and fire a low, hard shot into the net for a great team goal!
Bustleholme added a couple more, but for their very first game together as a team, the boys were outstanding and did themselves, their families and the club incredibly proud.
Game 2 vs Lanehead Eagles
We asked for the same effort, teamwork and confidence in the second game and the lads delivered again. They worked their socks off from start to finish. Although things didn’t quite go our way, there were so many positives to take. The moment of the match came when Koby produced an unbelievable goal-line clearance, hooking the ball away as it was rolling into an empty net!
Lanehead Eagles were a strong side and came out on top in the end, but the scoreline really didn’t reflect how well our boys played or how close they came on several occasions.
The results don’t tell the full story at all. For their first ever matches together against good opposition, every single player can hold their head high. Massive well done!
🏆 Player of the Match: Oscar
It could honestly have gone to anyone today, every boy gave everything, but Oscar just shaded it. Usually our goalkeeper, he stepped outfield and threw himself into every challenge. Brilliant tackling, confident dribbling, positive forward runs and a fantastic attitude throughout. Superb performance!
Huge congratulations to the whole team. We’re so proud of you all and can’t wait to get back on the training pitch and keep improving together. Well done, Rushall Village U7s!
