A really tough challenge today: we had to play the entire match with only ten players and, with our regular keeper still injured, two of the outfield lads had to take turns between the sticks. Despite the odds being stacked against us, the boys produced an outstanding performance full of heart, quality and togetherness. Everyone connected with the team should be incredibly proud.
The first half was superb. Playing against a strong side, we looked confident and dangerous all over the pitch. Some lovely, patient build-up play led to a string of well-worked team goals, and then came a moment of absolute magic – a world-class strike that flew into the top corner. The celebration that followed was something special; pure joy from the whole team!
The second half was always going to be hard with tired legs, a man short and another change in goal, but the boys kept fighting right to the final whistle. There were still plenty of positive moments – quick passing moves, strong defending and real determination to keep pushing forward.
Stand-out performers everywhere you looked, but huge credit to:
🏆 Parents’ Player of the Match: Oz
An unbelievable all-round display. Oz drove forward with the ball time after time, linked play brilliantly and helped the team keep moving the ball into dangerous areas. Add in some rock-solid tackling and you’ve got one very special performance.
🏆 Managers’ Player of the Match: Leo W
Fantastic from start to finish. His movement and positioning off the ball were excellent all game, he was constantly talking, organising and leading by example. To hear his voice ringing out across the pitch made the coaches very proud indeed.
This group has come on leaps and bounds in such a short space of time. Today showed exactly what they’re capable of, even under the most difficult circumstances. An absolute pleasure to watch – well done lads, you were brilliant!
