What a performance from the U14s today! The lads delivered a commanding display at home, running out comfortable 4-1 winners against a tough and resilient Darlaston side. From start to finish, we showed real attacking flair, control and that growing belief in our own style of play.
The opening 10 minutes were a little sloppy – we got drawn into trying to match the opposition’s direct approach when we didn’t need to. A few clear instructions from the sidelines changed that completely. Straight after, we produced a brilliant team goal: quick touch-and-go passes from Aaron to Riley, moving the ball swiftly through the lines, before Zak delivered a perfect ball into the box for Maurice to finish. That moment sparked us into life – from there, the desire and will to dominate the game really kicked in.
We controlled possession at 53.3%, with a huge chunk (47.9%) spent building patiently in the middle third – exactly where we want to hurt teams. More crucially, we were clinical: an impressive 30.8% conversion rate, with 69% of our goals coming from inside the box. That ruthless edge in the final third made all the difference.
Defensively, we were outstanding. Darlaston were restricted to just 8 attempts all game, thanks to superb organisation, constant communication and a real hunger to win the ball back high up the pitch. The second half was even better – we cranked possession up to a massive 73%, completely suffocating the opposition and creating chance after chance.
This victory builds on our excellent recent form, with clear improvements in possession, goal-scoring efficiency and defensive solidity. The progress the boys have made since the start of the season is there for everyone to see – they’re growing into a proper unit, full of confidence and quality.
Huge credit to every player, the coaches and all the parents who braved the cold today. So proud of this group – keep believing, keep working. Onto the next one! 💪⚽
