It’s hard to believe we didn’t come away with a result today. Possession was marginally in our favour, but more importantly, we created the better chances – and more of them. The boys played with intent, intelligence, and bravery, and it was only an inspired performance from the opposition goalkeeper that kept us from converting those moments into goals.
Despite the scoreline, this was one of our most promising performances to date. The football we played today – composed, purposeful, and built on clear principles – is exactly the style I want our Saturday team to adopt. It’s incredibly encouraging to see the lads not only understanding the instructions but beginning to execute them with confidence.
We started with real discipline, maintaining shape and pressing with control. After pulling a goal back, we continued to play with structure and belief. However, once we conceded again and began chasing the game, that discipline wavered. We threw everything forward, which is understandable, but it’s a moment we’ll learn from – how to chase a game while maintaining shape and stability.
Many of these boys haven’t played in teams that teach structured phases of play or the deeper principles of attacking and defensive transitions. That’s what we’re building here. Today was a glimpse of what’s possible – and the boys felt it. They enjoyed the style, the rhythm, and the control. And we haven’t even started on the full curriculum yet. The best is still to come.
What matters most is how they’re holding themselves. These past few games have been tough, but the progression is clear – to spectators, coaches, and most importantly, to the players themselves. If I can help even one of them grow in confidence and understanding, then it’s a job well done.
This group is special. They’re united, they support each other, and they genuinely love being part of this team. I couldn’t ask for a better group to build with.
Thank you all for your continued support – it means the world to the boys and to me.
