Our third encounter with Redstar Athletic this season – one of which was a preseason friendly – proved once again why fixtures between our sides are always so memorable. While the scoreline often takes a back seat, the intensity, sportsmanship, and mutual respect between the teams consistently make for an excellent contest. This match was no exception.

We began the game cautiously, struggling to find rhythm on a pitch that presented its own challenges. The surface, particularly around both boxes, was uneven and unpredictable, forcing us to adapt our usual passing style. Redstar capitalised early, pressing aggressively and dominating possession in the opening ten minutes. Their energy and determination were evident, and we had to dig deep to weather the storm.

Gradually, we found our footing. Our midfield began to link up more effectively, and the team adjusted to the conditions with smarter ball control and quicker decision-making. Around the 15-minute mark, our breakthrough came. Kayden threaded a precise pass through the defence, finding Jareal in stride. With composure and power, Jareal slotted the ball past the keeper to open the scoring – 1-0. The goal lifted our spirits and injected confidence across the pitch.

Moments later, we doubled our lead with a textbook counterattack. Solid defensive work broke down a Redstar advance, and the ball was transitioned swiftly from the back line to midfield. Our winger drove forward before cutting the ball back to our striker, who unleashed a thunderous shot that left the keeper rooted – 2-0.

To maintain momentum and tighten our grip on the game, we made tactical changes, including a shift in formation and fresh legs from the bench. Jacob, playing as a striker for only the second time with us, made an immediate impact. His blistering pace caused havoc for Redstar’s defence, and it wasn’t long before he latched onto a through ball, outpaced his marker, and rifled a stunning shot into the top corner – 3-0.

Jacob’s speed continued to be a decisive factor. Chasing down a loose ball in the box, he was sandwiched between two defenders and brought down, earning a clear penalty. He stepped up confidently and dispatched it with power and precision – 4-0.

Our fifth and final goal came from a well-worked corner. Erin delivered a beautifully curled ball into a packed penalty area, and Kayden rose highest to meet it, guiding his header past the keeper to cap off our scoring – 5-0.

In the dying moments, Redstar managed to pull one back. Aaron made a strong initial save, but as the ball bounced behind him, the referee judged it had crossed the line. Aaron was adamant his second touch had kept it out, but the goal stood. Thankfully, it didn’t affect the outcome.

Overall, it was a fantastic team performance. The hard work we’ve put into midfield movement and positional play during training was evident throughout. Every player contributed – tracking back, pressing, and supporting each other – and the result was a well-earned victory built on teamwork, adaptability, and determination.
