On Thursday evening, our ladies’ team once again showcased their determination and growing synergy as they faced new opposition in the form of Tutbury. A fresh challenge always brings a degree of unpredictability, but the squad embraced it with trademark energy and focus.
From the opening whistle, it was clear we meant business. The pace was lively, and we quickly identified Tutbury’s primary threat—two particularly talented players who sought to dictate play in the final third. Credit to our team’s tactical awareness; they were swiftly closed down and managed well throughout, limiting their impact.
The breakthrough came not long after kick-off. A crunching yet clean tackle deep in our own half by Leilah sparked a lightning-fast transition. Driving down the flank with pace and precision, she cut inside from the wing before calmly slotting the ball past the keeper—an early lead and a deserved reward for her tenacity.
Following the opener, our momentum surged. A wave of attacking pressure followed, with numerous shots peppering the Tutbury goal. Despite efforts just wide of the mark and a few on target forcing saves from their alert goalkeeper, the second goal remained elusive in the first half.
At the other end, goalkeeper Chez was called into action more than once. Tutbury responded with flashes of danger, including a powerful effort that slipped through a crowded box. Fortunately, Chez’s razor-sharp reflexes kept us ahead, preserving the clean sheet with a crucial stop.
Our defence remained resolute and composed. Timely challenges, clever positioning, and a no-nonsense approach ensured that Tutbury’s threats were limited and frustrated. Early in the second half, fortune met readiness once again as a deflected clearance fell kindly to Leilah, who instinctively struck a brilliant effort into the net to double the lead—2-0 and growing confidence across the pitch.
The third and final goal came from a well-worked throw-in routine. Kelly, with her usual precision, launched the ball perfectly into the path of Georgia. A quick turn, a deft touch, and a swiping finish later, the ball nestled into the back of the net, completing a well-rounded team performance.
For the majority of the match, we asserted control and kept Tutbury pinned in their own half. While they did pose moments of danger, our shape, discipline, and relentless effort from every player ensured a convincing 3-0 victory—another step forward in the Summer League campaign.
A clean sheet. Three goals. And, most importantly, a squad who gave everything for the badge. We go again, stronger.
