Project Update: Abbey Park Ground Development

As we progress into the second phase of our redevelopment project at Abbey Park Ground, we wanted to take this opportunity to provide an update on our plans for the upcoming 2025/26 season and our long-term vision for the future.

Topological Survey and Pitch Assessment
We are now preparing for a critical phase in our project: a comprehensive topological survey scheduled for 5th May. This survey is an essential step, as it will provide a highly detailed mapping of both the natural and man-made features of the ground. The assessment will examine elevations, contours, bodies of water, vegetation, and existing structures. Additionally, soil samples will be collected to determine the most viable path forward for the pitch itself.

One of the key outcomes of this survey will be deciding whether the existing pitch can be salvaged or if a complete reconstruction is necessary. While this survey represents a significant financial investment, it is a mandatory requirement should we seek funding support from The Football Association (FA).

Following the survey, there will be a period of waiting as we anticipate the results. Once we receive the findings, we will proceed with an application to the FA for financial assistance. However, given the FA’s existing backlog of applications, this process may introduce additional delays before we can secure any potential support.

Additional Ground Improvements
While we await the outcome of the survey and funding application, we will focus on enhancing the surrounding areas of the pitch. Planned improvements include:

  • Restoration of Infrastructure: Painting and repairing handrails and stumps.
  • Cabin Maintenance: Sanding, painting, and general refurbishment.
  • Graffiti Removal: Cleaning walls and applying fresh coats of paint.
  • Boundary Enhancements: Replacing existing fencing to improve security and aesthetics.
  • Clubhouse Development: Constructing a new clubhouse equipped with toilets and changing rooms.
  • Utility Restoration: Reconnecting electricity and water supplies to the property.
  • Drainage Maintenance: Conducting a thorough drain cleaning operation
