π A Brilliant Start to the New Trophy Event for our U8’s! π
What a fantastic way to begin our new trophy event, with the boys putting in two excellent team performances and showing plenty of confidence, teamwork and determination throughout the morning.
π β« Rushall Village vs Wednesbury Sports Union
Our first game of the new competition got off to a fantastic start.
The boys were switched on from the very first whistle, showing great energy and moving the ball with confidence. Adam opened the scoring early on before Nicholas added two more with some brilliant finishes, including a fantastic strike over the goalkeeper.
Adam then added another before the break as Rushall continued to look the stronger side and, more importantly, continued to play as a team.
The passing, movement and willingness to work for one another were excellent, and it was a really positive opening performance.
After the break, we continued in much the same way.
Ashton found the back of the net before an unfortunate own goal went against us. Koby did exactly what we would want him to do by trying to block the shot, but unfortunately the deflection found its way into our own goal.
We then conceded from a free-kick in a dangerous position. It was a very well-struck effort and Freddie, in goal, did brilliantly to get a hand to it with a good dive, but couldn’t quite keep it out.
The boys didn’t let either setback affect them and continued to play their football.
Ashton then added another goal late on to round off a brilliant first performance in the competition.
A really impressive start from the whole team. ππ β«
π β« Rushall Village vs Sedgley & Gornal North
With a 30-minute gap between games, we knew the second match could be a different challenge.
The boys had to stay focused, keep themselves warm and be ready to go again.
We started slightly slower than we normally would, but gradually settled into the game and began to find our rhythm.
Nicholas opened the scoring following some fantastic build-up play. The passing and movement leading to the goal was excellent and it was a great example of what can happen when the whole team works together.
Unfortunately, we switched off slightly afterwards and allowed Sedgley & Gornal North back into the game.
We weren’t quite as focused as we needed to be and found ourselves out of position on a couple of occasions, resulting in two goals that we would normally expect ourselves to prevent.
The boys were given a challenge going into the break β and they responded brilliantly.
With only seconds remaining in the half, Adam produced a moment of quality, unleashing a powerful strike from outside the box that gave the goalkeeper absolutely no chance.
It was a fantastic finish and exactly the response we wanted to see.
The second half was hard-fought, but we looked increasingly dangerous as the game went on.
Nicholas came incredibly close from a free-kick which smashed against the crossbar, while the boys continued to push forward and create opportunities.
Eventually, Nicholas produced another excellent individual run before finishing brilliantly to put us back in front.
There were some excellent individual moments throughout the game too, including Tommy’s fantastic dribbling down the left-hand side. He showed great composure to retain possession under pressure and continued to drive the team forward.
With the game entering its final stages, the boys showed another important part of their development.
They kept their shape, defended brilliantly and worked incredibly hard for each other to see the game through.
A fantastic second performance and another excellent result to start the competition.

π Parents’ Player of the Match β Ashton π β«
Another excellent defensive performance from Ashton.
He has quickly become a hugely important player for this team and continues to put in consistent, committed performances.
Some excellent tackles and blocks, combined with his contribution in attack, made this a fantastic all-round display across both games.
A really impressive morning’s work.
Well done, Ashton! ππ
π Managers’ Player of the Match β Adam π β«
What a performance from Adam.
He was a constant threat throughout both games, working tirelessly, making excellent passes and producing some fantastic forward runs.
His finishing was outstanding too, including one strike that was hit so sweetly that it had everyone talking, with even opposition coaches praising the quality of the finish.
But it wasn’t just the goals that impressed us. Adam worked incredibly hard for the team, supported his teammates and showed exactly what it means to be a great player within this group.
Thoroughly deserved. Well done, Adam! ππ
π Final Thoughts
What a brilliant start to the new trophy event.
Two games brought plenty of positive moments, excellent teamwork and some fantastic individual performances, but once again the biggest positive was the way the boys worked for each other.
They’re listening, learning and improving every single week, and it’s fantastic to see the progress they’re making.
There is still plenty for us to work on, but that’s exactly what these games are about – giving the boys opportunities to learn, develop, enjoy their football and build confidence together.
We’re really looking forward to seeing how this competition develops and, most importantly, continuing to watch this brilliant group grow together.
Well done, boys! ππ β«π
