⚽ Sporting Khalsa 3–5 Rushall Village ⚽
First league game of the season — and what a way to start!
Things didn’t get off to the easiest start today, with no referee available and a stand-in having to step up to take charge. But rather than allowing that to affect us, the instruction was simple: start fast, take the game to Sporting and put them on the back foot.
And that’s exactly what we did.
Within five minutes, Rio produced a fantastic finish from outside the box to give us the lead. Confidence was high and the football we played was simply outstanding. We moved the ball brilliantly, played with purpose and had Sporting chasing shadows for large periods.
Sporting are an aggressive, direct side and they managed to find an equaliser, but there was no panic from our boys. We trusted the process, continued to play our football and were rewarded just before half-time when Alex found the net from a corner to make it 2–1.
At half-time, the message was clear: keep playing.
Sporting were struggling to cope with the way we were moving the ball, and despite what felt like around eight injuries to our players throughout the game — including having to substitute our goalkeeper — the boys remained completely unfazed.
The second half was breathtaking.
A brilliant passage of football saw Kayden slide a perfectly weighted ball through to Maurice, who finished superbly to make it 3–1.
Then, just minutes later, it was 4–1. Josh played a fantastic through ball for Jareal, who finished brilliantly to extend our lead.
Sporting pulled one back to make it 4–2, but again there was no panic. The boys kept playing, kept competing and kept believing.
Then came another moment of quality.
Rio did brilliantly down the right before finding Josh, who unleashed an unbelievable strike from around 25 yards, finding the top corner and sparking huge celebrations from the players, coaches and parents! 🔥⚽
Sporting managed to score with virtually the last kick of the game, but it was Rushall Village who came away with a fantastic 5–3 victory.
Over the last three weeks, we have faced some seriously tough opposition, and this group continues to raise their level every single time. They are playing with incredible confidence, togetherness and belief.
Today, every single player gave 110%. They fought for every ball, showed no fear and continued to play football even when the opposition tried to make the game physical.
Most importantly, they showed once again that when they face the strongest teams in Division 1, they raise their game.
It is fantastic to watch this group develop and grow together.
Bring on the champions next week! 👊🧡🖤
Nothing to lose. Pressure is on them.
⭐ Parents’ Player of the Match – Steven
Unbelievable today.
Steven fought for absolutely everything, played in three different positions and, when Aaron had to come off injured, was the first player to put his hand up and say, “I’ll go in goal.”
That sums him up perfectly — always willing to do whatever the team needs. 👏
🏆 Managers’ Player of the Match – Alex
A true captain’s performance.
Alex led by example from start to finish, put his body on the line, won everything and chased every ball. He gave absolutely everything for the team and capped off his performance with an important goal.
Exactly what you want from your captain. 👏🧡🖤
