This week the performance matched the result – something we as coaches have been working hard on during training. Our focus recently has been on encouraging the players to take ownership of their roles, show commitment in every moment of the game, stay disciplined in their positions, and most importantly work together as one team. Today the whole squad showed exactly what can happen when those things come together.
The energy, attitude and togetherness from the team was fantastic. The players supported each other and worked hard both on and off the ball
Early in the game Holy Lane created a chance that looked like it could give them the lead, but Aaron produced an outstanding save to deny what seemed like a certain goal. It was a brilliant moment and one that really lifted the whole team.
Once we settled into the game, the team started to show the quality we know they have. The movement, passing and teamwork began to create chances and the goals soon followed.
It was fantastic to see different players contributing to the goals and creating chances for one another. The teamwork leading up to these moments was just as important as the finishes themselves.
Another really pleasing part of today’s game was the willingness of players to step into different positions. We made several positional changes to help players experience different roles on the pitch, including Alex moving up front, Joe playing at left back, and Ellis and Rio stepping into defensive roles.
Not one of these players let their effort drop when asked to try something new. In fact, they embraced the challenge brilliantly. As coaches we were especially proud to see how their teammates supported and encouraged them in those roles. That kind of positivity and teamwork is exactly what makes this group so special.
What stood out most today wasn’t just the goals or the result – it was the attitude of every single player. Everyone worked hard, supported each other and showed great determination from start to finish.
Every player contributed, whether through defending, passing, encouraging teammates, or putting in the hard work that sometimes goes unnoticed. That togetherness is what makes the difference.
When it came to choosing players of the match, the parents had two joint choices and the coaches agreed.
