4-3

The team got off to a slow start, conceding an early goal due to sluggish reactions. Mistakes in the defensive area of the pitch compounded the situation, leading to a loss of control and possession—an area where the team typically excels. These setbacks made it difficult to advance out of our own half, ultimately resulting in a second goal conceded due to another error.

However, the U13s demonstrated commendable resilience and determination. A precise through ball from Zak found Maurice, who skillfully maneuvered around the goalkeeper to score and narrow the deficit. Unfortunately, shortly after the restart, the opposition capitalized on a lapse in midfield, bringing the score to 3-1.

Despite further injuries within the squad, momentum began to build. Maurice struck again, delivering a confident goal that re-energized the team. In a contentious moment, goalkeeper Aaron was penalized for handling the ball outside the box (it was a chested ball), which led to a free kick and another goal for the opposition, bringing the scoreline to 4-2.

Undeterred, the team pressed forward with determination, creating several close chances and eventually securing a superb goal that sailed over the goalkeeper into the net. As the U13s gained ground, the opposition resorted to time-wasting tactics, including feigning injuries and deliberately delaying the game. Despite these obstacles, the match concluded with a narrow 4-3 loss. The squad’s relentless effort in the face of adversity remained a point of pride.

The defensive unit deserves special commendation for their unwavering performance against three quick and persistent attackers. Despite enduring physical challenges, including kicks, pushes, scrapes, and even bleeding injuries, the defenders displayed remarkable strength and resilience—a testament to their commitment to the team.

Well done Rushall!
