A Tough Day at the Office for the U12s

Rushall Village U12s

It was a really tough day at the office for our Under 12s today as they came up against the league leaders in a physically demanding game.

The opposition were extremely physical throughout the match, and at times their approach bordered on aggressive, which made it a difficult afternoon for our players.

We knew before kick-off that we would have to be strong, composed and disciplined, and unfortunately we didn’t quite manage to produce our usual level of football.

First Half

We conceded early in the first half, which wasn’t the start we wanted.

To the players’ credit, though, they dusted themselves down and responded well.

The team tightened up considerably after the early setback, worked hard for each other and managed to keep the opposition at bay for the remainder of the half.

Defensively, we showed plenty of resilience and determination to keep the game within reach.

At the other end, however, we struggled to create the same attacking threat we normally do.

The usual dynamism between our midfield and attacking players just wasn’t quite there today. Our passing wasn’t as fluid as it has been, and clear-cut opportunities were few and far between.

Despite that, the players showed character to go into half-time still very much in the game.

Second Half

Unfortunately, the second half became even more difficult.

The physical nature of the opposition continued, and they managed to add another goal relatively early in the half.

From that point, we started to lose some of our confidence.

The boys appeared to become slightly intimidated by the way the opposition were playing, and this affected our decision-making and our ability to play the football we know we’re capable of.

The opposition managed to find a way through our defence on two further occasions, leaving us with a difficult afternoon.

The final result wasn’t what we wanted, but there are important lessons for this group to take from the game.

Football isn’t always going to go our way.

We’re going to face teams who are physical, teams who put us under pressure and games where we don’t find our usual rhythm.

The challenge for us is learning how to stay composed, maintain our shape and continue playing our football regardless of what the opposition brings.

That’s something we’ll work on together.

πŸ† Parents’ Player of the Match – Kian

Although the scoreline doesn’t necessarily show it, Kian produced a fantastic performance in goal.

He made some excellent saves throughout the game and his confidence in coming off his line has improved enormously.

Kian was particularly impressive when rushing out to close down attackers and clearing several dangerous through balls before they could become chances.

He was extremely unlucky not to keep out two of the goals, but there were plenty of positives to take from his performance.

It’s fantastic to see the progress he’s making.

Well done, Kian! πŸ§€πŸ‘

πŸ† Managers’ Player of the Match – Aali

Aali thoroughly deserved the Managers’ Player of the Match award today.

When he came on as a substitute, we gave him a very clear instruction β€” stay focused and stay disciplined.

And that’s exactly what he did.

Aali can sometimes find himself wandering out of position, but today he listened to the instruction, stayed focused and really stuck to the task.

He made several strong challenges, held his position well and was one of the players who wasn’t intimidated by the opposition’s approach.

A really mature performance and exactly the kind of response we’re looking for.

Well done, Aali! πŸ‘βš½

πŸ’ Final Thoughts

Today was difficult.

The result hurts, and the performance wasn’t at the level we know this group can produce.

But that’s football.

There will be days when everything clicks and days when we have to dig deep, learn from the experience and come back stronger.

Today has given us plenty to work on, particularly in terms of staying composed and confident when faced with a very physical opposition.

We’ll dust ourselves off, take the lessons from today and get back to work.

Onto next week. βš½πŸ§‘πŸ–€
