β½ U11s – A Tough Weekend Against Two Very Good Sides
It was a tough weekend for our U11s, facing two very good opposition teams, but there was plenty for the boys to be proud of.
Our first game was a really competitive contest. It wasn’t our best performance, and it felt like we were constantly having to come from behind after conceding some avoidable goals. But credit to the boys – they kept working, kept fighting and kept finding a way to get themselves back into the game.
Ultimately, they battled their way to a much more positive result and showed great character to never give up. πͺ
Then came the second game, which was by far the toughest of the weekend. Unfortunately, the game was also affected by some very questionable officiating.
There were a number of decisions that left us frustrated – including the game being restarted while we were making a substitution and our player wasn’t even back on the pitch, an opposition goalkeeper coming out of his box when we were through on goal before diving on the ball and handling it outside the area with no foul given, and a number of situations where our boys were subjected to some aggressive challenges while similar incidents involving the opposition were penalised differently.
It took away from what could, and should, have been a really competitive football match and, understandably, left a bit of a bad taste in our mouths.
But despite all of that, there was one huge positive we could take from the game.
The football in the first half was absolutely brilliant. π₯
The skill, movement, teamwork and confidence on display were fantastic. Some of the football the boys produced was genuinely spectacular, and that is what we want to take away from this weekend.
Yes, it was a tough weekend. Yes, there are things we need to improve.
But the boys should be really proud of themselves. π
The football we’ve been playing over the last two weekends has been amazing β a style, confidence and level of teamwork that we haven’t seen from the boys for a long time.
That is something we need to build on.
Keep believing. Keep working. Keep playing our football.
Onwards and upwards! π¦π§‘π€
