Rushall Village U7s – Trophy Event Week 1 Match Reports
1st Game Rushall Village vs Sedgley & Gornal Utd Sth
A brilliant start to the new trophy event and one of the strongest all-round performances this group has produced. From kick-off the boys were sharp, focused, and full of confidence.
Adam set the tone immediately. He dribbled forward with real purpose, beat his defender, and slotted a composed finish into the bottom corner. Moments later, Rio produced one of his trademark goals, gliding past defenders and finishing with the calmness we’ve come to expect from him.
Tommy was full of energy, driving forward, making dangerous passes, and working hard to win the ball back. The pressure continued when Adam won possession with a superb tackle, burst through on goal, and finished brilliantly for his second. All his own work, and fully deserved.
The team shape, work rate, and passing were outstanding. Koby added to that with a strong defensive tackle, followed by a perfectly weighted pass to send Rio through again. No hesitation, Rio tucked it away to extend our lead.
We kept pushing before half-time and added another, giving us a comfortable advantage at the break.
The second half continued in the same style. A handball from Rio’s cross earned us a penalty, and he smashed it home with power. Late in the game, Dhillon was fouled just outside the box after a great dribble. He stepped up and curled in a brilliant free-kick to round off a fantastic display of attacking football.
Rushall Village win!
2nd Game Rushall Village vs Lanehead Eagles
A tougher test awaited after a long delay between games, especially against a Lanehead side who played in a higher group last time and who had beaten us in our previous meeting. They started quickly, and our boys weren’t fully switched on. Before we could organise, Lanehead took the lead straight from kick-off.
The response was excellent. We settled, found our rhythm, and began playing positive attacking football. Rio took on defenders from a tight angle and finished superbly to level the game.
Defensively we weren’t as confident, and an uncharacteristic mistake allowed Lanehead to regain the lead. Freddie did everything he could to stop it, but we went into half-time behind.
The second half began with Lanehead adding another, but the boys refused to give in. A cleared corner fell to Dhillon, who struck a shot that the keeper couldn’t hold. He stopped it on the line, but his momentum carried both himself and the ball over. Game on!
Moments later came a huge moment: Adam hit a powerful effort from near halfway. It bounced awkwardly, the keeper misjudged it, and it flew in to level the game. The boys were buzzing, and the momentum was all ours.
Shortly after, Rio struck again — his fifth of the day — finishing brilliantly to put us ahead. A massive moment and a reward for his incredible work rate.
Right at the end, a foul was given and the referee pointed to the spot. We felt it was outside the box, but the decision stood. Koby, now in goal, got a touch on the penalty but couldn’t keep it out. Seconds later, the whistle blew on a dramatic game that ended all square.
What a match!

Final Thoughts
The first game was outstanding — everything from training came together perfectly. The second game was a real test against a strong side, but the boys showed heart, resilience, and belief. Goals galore across the two matches, and every player supported each other throughout.
The togetherness, the attitude, and the football were all fantastic. The boys also handled difficult moments from outside the pitch with maturity, and that made us even prouder.
A brilliant start to the new trophy event. The boys are growing every week, and the confidence in the group is clear to see.
Looking forward to the next games.
