Rushall Village U14s returned to action after a lengthy break due to the Christmas holidays and persistent poor weather that had postponed matches and training sessions. Facing a strong and competitive side in Total Football, the coaches anticipated a challenging game to shake off any rust. However, the players demonstrated they had fully absorbed the week’s training sessions, delivering a performance that left the coaching staff in awe with their maturity, intensity, and quality on the ball.
From the first whistle, Rushall Village started brightly and aggressively, applying relentless high pressure that pinned Total Football deep in their own half. The team maintained this dominance early on, forcing the opposition into uncomfortable positions. While Total Football occasionally broke through the press, the Rushall defence stood firm, quickly regaining control. When threats did emerge, goalkeeper Aaron was alert, collecting the ball confidently and launching precise, long distributions to launch counter-attacks.
The breakthrough arrived in the 9th minute. Ellis produced a vital clearance from our box, and the ball fell kindly to Maurice’s feet. Displaying excellent skill and composure, Maurice dribbled past a defender with flair, then surged forward. Jareal supported the run down the left, while Rio overlapped dynamically on the right. Maurice delivered a sharp, low cross into the box, finding Jareal, whose calm finish exploited the goalkeeper’s positioning for a well-deserved 1-0 lead.
The next 10 minutes showcased some of Rushall Village’s finest football of the season. The new midfield partnership of Ellis and Josh dictated the tempo beautifully, winning duels, recycling possession, and linking effectively with the wide players and Kayden just ahead to maintain constant attacking threat. The team created numerous opportunities, registering at least four more shots on target as they continued to dominate.
The second goal came at the 29-minute mark. Josh made a clever toe-poke tackle to dispossess an opponent, with the loose ball dropping to Maurice near the touchline. Despite appearing to be heading out of play, Maurice’s quick feet and determination kept it alive. He drove forward purposefully into the attacking third before slipping a pass into Jareal. With a neat one-touch layoff, Jareal set up Zak perfectly, who unleashed a powerful, swiping shot that nestled into the bottom corner — 2-0.
Moments later, at 32 minutes, another flowing move extended the lead. Ethan produced a strong defensive tackle to win possession, feeding the ball into Jareal. Jareal combined sweetly with Rio, who then overlapped and returned the ball. Jareal’s cross was met by Maurice arriving late, who squared it across the box for Zak to tap home clinically — 3-0 at the interval.
The second half followed a similar pattern: sustained high intensity, excellent discipline across the pitch, and continued control. The fourth goal arrived soon after the restart. Aaron started the move with a superb distribution from the back to Riley at left-back. Riley showed great footwork to beat his marker, before passing to Obrian. A quick one-touch from Obrian found Jareal in space, who calmly threaded a through ball behind the defence for Maurice to race onto and finish coolly — 4-0.
The scoring was completed in the 66th minute. Zak intercepted an opposition throw-in with a strong header, nodding the ball down to Kayden. Kayden took a touch and played a precise pass to Rio, who drove purposefully through midfield. Spotting Jareal’s intelligent run, Rio delivered a perfectly weighted ball. Jareal timed his movement excellently, burst through on goal, and finished with composure to seal a 5-0 victory.
Every player contributed outstandingly today. The defensive line was rock-solid, the wingbacks provided width and energy, the midfield controlled proceedings with poise, and the front four were clinical and creative throughout. Special praise must go to goalkeeper Aaron, whose string of outstanding (“worldie”) saves preserved a well-deserved clean sheet — he was exceptional and fully earned the shutout.
A brilliant team performance that adds another three points and keeps Rushall Village U14s firmly in 2nd place in the league for another week. Well done to all the lads – fantastic stuff!
