Rushall Village U14 MJPL secured a hard-fought victory over Cadbury Athletic in a fiercely contested Midland Junior Premier League encounter.
The match got off to a difficult start for the lads, as Cadbury Athletic applied intense early pressure and aggression, taking a quick 1-0 lead. Despite missing a few players through injury, which left the team slightly depleted, the boys displayed tremendous character and fought back strongly to regain control.
On 20 minutes, Maurice delivered a moment of real class, executing a superb lob over the goalkeeper to level the scores at 1-1. The game stayed highly physical throughout, with much of the robust play coming from the opposition. The referee allowed a number of strong challenges to continue, prompting the coaches to urge the team to stay resilient and match the intensity where fouls went unpunished.
Standout performances shone across the pitch. Rudy produced several crucial saves in goal to keep us in contention, while Jack led the defence with vocal authority and composure. Joe excelled in midfield, repeatedly breaking up attacks and sparking dangerous counterattacks.
Aron, Miles, and Steven worked tirelessly in their roles, and Maurice showed great maturity, holding the ball up effectively and linking play with real experience. Just before half-time, on 42 minutes, Tommie unleashed a stunning long-range strike that soared over the keeper to put Rushall Village ahead at 2-1.
Early in the second half, at 48 minutes, the team earned a penalty following excellent interplay between Maurice and Steven. Regrettably, the spot-kick was not converted, leaving the lead intact but not extended.
As the game wore on, Tommie, Josh, Polo, Alex, and Ollie all grew in confidence and made valuable contributions. Rudy added more vital stops in goal, and the entire defence showed immense determination to protect the advantage.
In the end, the lads held firm through a tough, physical battle to claim a well-deserved win. A fantastic example of resilience, teamwork, and fighting spirit from the whole squad—well done, boys! Up the Village!
