What a special day for our U11 teams – our first game of the year, and not just any match: our very first intra-club derby against the other Rushall Village U11 side! It was an absolute pleasure to see both teams come together on the pitch, representing the same club spirit.
Both sides started slowly, shaking off the rust from the long break, but once the cobwebs were dusted, we were treated to a fantastic end-to-end spectacle. Chances flowed at both ends, with great energy, skill, and determination on display from every player. It looked set for a tight draw as the game ebbed and flowed, but a couple of smart tactical switches opened things up and broke the deadlock.
The opposition kept their heads high, creating more opportunities and pulling one back to stay in the fight. But Rushall responded with real quality: some lovely short, sharp passing led to a well-taken goal, followed quickly by another to extend the lead. The team spirit grew stronger with every minute—the voices got louder, the support intensified, and we saw a true team performance shining through.
The fourth and fifth goals came from Lion and Oscar, who both thrived in new starting roles today, showing fantastic adaptability. Oscar, shifted into a defensive midfield position instead of his usual centre-back spot, made a huge impact—delivering super through balls, grabbing an assist, and scoring a brilliant goal. Special mention too for little Leo: moving him to the right (away from his favourite left side) transformed his second-half display, with three fantastic assists that earned him a well-deserved Manager’s Player of the Match!
The whole squad played some really good football after such a lengthy break and limited chances to gel in this formation—it was exciting to watch this group grow together. Win or lose, the club spirit was on full show: we finished with a big group photo bringing both Rushall teams together as one.
Big shoutout to both U11 sides—proud of every single one of you! Moments like this are what grassroots football is all about. Onward and upward! 💪
