Recap
A frustrating afternoon for the lads
A strong warm-up and positive pre-match chat filled us with confidence going into today’s game. We knew we had to start well, but unfortunately we were slow out of the blocks against a well-organised West Worcester side.
As the first half continued, we just couldn’t seem to get out of first gear. We struggled to find our usual rhythm and get our passing game going.
Midway through the half, West Worcester took advantage of the space in front of them and hit a long-range effort. We didn’t close the ball down quickly enough and the shot found the bottom corner, giving them a 1–0 lead.
Half-time: Rushall Village 0–1 West Worcester Youth
At half-time, we asked the lads to show belief in their own abilities and get hold of the game. We knew we were capable of much more and wanted to see the boys come out with greater intensity and confidence.
Unfortunately, the second half followed a similar pattern to the first.
It certainly wasn’t through a lack of effort. The lads continued to work hard, but the ball just wouldn’t seem to drop our way, making it difficult for us to get into the free-flowing football we know we’re capable of playing.
There were a few chances for both sides, but neither goalkeeper was really tested, and despite our efforts to get ourselves back into the game, we couldn’t find the breakthrough.
Full-time: Rushall Village U15 0–1 West Worcester Youth U15 Albion
A disappointing performance from the lads today, and ultimately not the result we wanted.
However, one thing we cannot question is their attitude. Not one of them downed tools. They kept their heads high, continued working and pushed right until the final whistle to try and turn the game back in our favour.
A couple of injuries certainly didn’t help, but once again this group stuck together and continued to battle for each other.
There are games where everything clicks, and there are games where it just doesn’t happen for you. Today was one of those days. The important thing now is that we learn from it, take the positives and come back stronger.
Parents’ Player of the Match – Guang ⭐
Excellent when he came on. Battled for every ball and gave everything to the team.
Managers’ Player of the Match – Steven ⭐
Even with a sore ankle, Steven kept running, kept working and continued looking to play the ball forward. A great example of commitment to the team.
Keep your heads up, lads. One result doesn’t define this group. We go again. 💪⚽
