Recap

A game of character, togetherness and plenty of positives to build on

The lads were really focused before today’s game and took that confidence straight onto the pitch. We knew we were facing a strong Harborough Town side who had scored 20+ goals across their first two games, but the boys showed no fear and started the game brilliantly.

For large parts of the opening period, Rushall were the stronger side. Our intensity was excellent, we were getting after Harborough and playing our football with confidence. At times, Harborough simply didn’t seem to know what to do against us.

Against the run of play, Harborough took the lead in controversial circumstances. Our linesman was retrieving a ball, but play continued without any intervention from the officials, and Harborough took advantage to score.

Despite that setback, the lads didn’t let their heads drop. They continued to play their football and soon got the reward they deserved.

What followed was a moment of individual brilliance from Carlos, who picked the ball up and danced his way around three or four players before driving into the box and finishing brilliantly.

1–1!

Just a few minutes later, Rushall turned the game around. A corner came across the box and Freddie was there to meet it, finishing to put us ahead.

2–1 Rushall!

Unfortunately, a lapse in concentration just before half-time allowed Harborough to find an equaliser.

Half-time: Rushall 2–2 Harborough

At half-time, we spoke to the lads about keeping our intensity and performance levels high. We knew we had caused Harborough plenty of problems in the first half and needed to maintain that same energy.

The second half was disappointing from our point of view. Harborough managed to score two more goals to extend their lead, although the scoreline could certainly have been worse without some outstanding goalkeeping from Rudi.

Rudi produced save after save at crucial moments, including a particularly impressive double save that kept us in the game.

To the lads’ credit, their heads still didn’t drop. They continued to work, continued to play and continued to fight until the final whistle. Unfortunately, on this occasion, it just wasn’t enough.

Full-time: Rushall Village U15 2–4 Harborough Town Yellow U15

It’s not the result we wanted, but there are plenty of positives to take from today’s game.

The togetherness of this group was outstanding. They faced a side who had been scoring goals for fun, stood up to the challenge and showed in the first half exactly what this team is capable of.

A brilliant debut from Xaviar, who fitted into the team seamlessly and looked like he had been part of the group for much longer. A fantastic first appearance.

There is still plenty for us to work on, but that’s what makes this season exciting. We’ve got a great group of lads, plenty of potential and a lot to look forward to.
